Fire safety signs fall into three main categories: fire extinguisher (or equipment), fire exit and fire action.
They should offer clear visual guidance to employees, site visitors and the general public.
If your organisation is new or you are replacing your current signage it is recommended that you ensure the signs comply with the ISO 7010 standard so that they don’t become out of date once the standards become part of the British standards. If you are using the current EEC directive signs then you should look to replace these with ISO 7010 compliant signs however, it is advisable to avoid any ambiguity by not having a combination of both sign types.
If you do not have the right signage in place, you could find yourself at risk of being issued with a notice and / or prosecution.
